Join us in-store on April 24th with James Beard nominated author Austin Bush to celebrate his new book, The Food of Southern Thailand! Austin will demo a recipe from the book and be in conversation with Seattle's J. Kenji Lopez-Alt, author of The Wok and The Food Lab.
A beautiful, eye-opening guide to the culture and cuisine of Thailand’s south, Austin looks at the region’s quintessential recipes: spicy noodles, coconut curries, and seafood dishes, capturing the rich culinary traditions of the country’s southern region, making this the first cookbook in English to focus on the cuisine.
Reservations are non-refundable and include a signed copy of the $45.00 book. Applicable sales tax and a $0.75 transaction fee are also included. Can't attend but still want a signed book? Order here for shipping or in-store pickup.
The Food of Southern Thailand continues Austin’s ambitious project of illuminating Thailand’s foodways. Shared here are bold, spicy flavors of chile, turmeric, and black pepper that link countryside and island. Gathered, too, are cosmopolitan dishes from the cities that blend ingredients such as coconut milk and fish sauce. The food of southern Thailand is like nothing you’ve encountered before: vibrant, thanks to Thailand’s colorful larder; diverse, reflecting various waves of immigration to the region; and delicious beyond what you might find in most restaurants in the United States.
Austin Bush is the author of The Food of Northern Thailand, which was a finalist for the 2019 James Beard Foundation Book Award and shortlisted for the 2019 Art of Eating Prize. Bush speaks, reads, and writes fluent Thai, and has written extensively about Thai food. His writing and photography have appeared in more than twenty books he has photographed the New York Times-bestseller Pok Pok. Originally from Oregon, Bush lives in Portugal.
